ABOUT ME
Me. What does it mean to be me? A complicated question for anyone to answer about themselves really. I mean, we all grasp at labels trying to explain ourselves to the world, hoping we get it right. But what we do and what we like are all just specks of paint upon the canvas of our being…
But, that said, I have settled on three labels for myself. Although they may seem boring, or basic, or just plain obvious, they have much more meaning than their simple definitions would imply. Allow me to explain:
LABEL #1: MOM. I consider this to be my most important label as it was the turning point in my life. Becoming mom rocked my world, brought a deeper sense of purpose, and passion never before felt. My oldest son has a kind heart, a sweet soul, and the worlds best smile! (true story) Following closely behind him, like literally behind each and every step, is our very busy toddler. Even though they have many years between them, their bond is already so strong… Making it the most beautiful gift in the world for this momma!
LABEL #2: WIFE. And my oh my, what a colourful road this has been! My first time known as wife ended in divorce shortly after the birth of my first son… and so began my single mom life, complete with endless life lessons. Funny thing though, it also gave me the opportunity to grow into a strong and independent self. As a result, the stars aligned and I found another strong and independent person to share life’s ups and downs with. I am happy to say I have met a man that inspires and challenges me on a daily basis; the flip to my flip, the bumble to my bee. We got married in June of 2020 –Yes, right in the heart of a pandemic, but that’s a story for another day!
LABEL #3: EDUCATION ASSISTANT. When I was younger, I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to be once I “grew up.” Through my 20’s I jumped from job to job, trying to find the right fit, but nothing ever felt like more than just a paycheck. One day though, while volunteering with my son’s kindergarten class, I found my calling. Growing up I probably would have said something like “I would NEVER have the patience to work in a classroom!” Yet, Here we are! I currently work in a kindergarten classroom, and am loving every minute! They have big emotions that need constant reassurance, compassionate care, and gentle guidance. Added bonus: They give the greatest compliments.
Beyond the labels, I aim to inspire and be inspired. I live to find passion; a “daily dose of happy” if you will! Art and music bring me great amounts of happiness, and I try to be swept away by one or the other on a daily basis. I love to play hockey, but I’m not very good at it. I also love the outdoors; Whether it’s solo time to drink in the calming energy of nature, or adventuring with my family. I love to travel and drink in the experiences the world has to offer. I’ve been to Spain, Belgium and France with my love, and we’re forever dreaming of our next excursion! I once travelled to Italy on my own (I still dream in pasta and wine). I find joy in cooking while experimenting with new flavours, and the reward of a delicious meal. I hate doing dishes. I love a challenge and when something grabs my interest I will jump in with both feet until fully immersed. I enjoy a good nap. Life is too short to be unhappy and I will go out of my way to bring someone else joy.
Now that you know a little more about me, I hope you will follow along as I traverse this landscape of life, raise my boys through life’s unknows, and find the balance of loving another with my whole being, all while holding onto what makes me, me!
Much Love,
-Tara
